Tässä tietoa KOMISTA, Sinapisiemenen omasta stipendiaatista:
KARONG THANGHAO = KOM
Sinapinsiemenen stipendiaatti* Karong Thanghao Kom on kolmannen polven protestanttinen kristitty,kotoisin Koillis-Intiasta, Manipurin osavaltiosta. Kom-heimo on yksi Intian pienistä ja hyvin halveksituista heimoista, n 25000-30000 komia.
* Perheen isä 76 vuotias, eläkkeellä kylänsä opettajan ja papin tehtävistä. Äiti on 68 vuotias. Molemmilla monia sairauksia. Kom on perheen 9 lapsesta toiseksi nuorin, syntynyt 13.8.1981
* Kom on opiskellut teologiaa: Bachelor of Theology (2001- 2004)Bachelor of Divinity (2005-2007)
* Kom avusti Taizé-yhteisön isoa Intian kokousta Kolkatassa lokakuussa 2006 ja kertoo, että veli Alois ‘näki’ hänet. Veli Alois sai kuulla, ettei Komilla ollut rahoistustakaajia jatko-opiskeluun ja hän kutsui Komin Taizeen kesällä 2007 vierailemaan ja vapaaehtoistyöhön.
* Helmikuussa 2008 Kom lähetettiin Taizésta virolaisen Rainarin kanssa Suomeen. He vierailivat Haminassa, Kajaanissa, Inarissa, Utsjoella, Kittilässä ja Jyväskylässä. Siitä lähtien Oili Kemppainen Ivalosta on ollut jatkuvassa yhteydessä Komin kanssa.
* Aulikki Kalliolahti, Oili Kemppainen ja Ulla Hynönen tapasivat Komin Taizéssa toukokuussa 2008. Silloin laadittiin stipendiaattihakemus Sinapinsiemen ry:lle. Yhdistyksen johtokunta hyväksyi hakemuksen 26.5.2008. Hakemuksessaan Kom sanoo: “Minun nöyrä rukoukseni on, että voisin olla vaatimaton instrumentti Jumalan kunniaksi erityisesti heimoni ja yleensä kristittyjen keskuudessa.”
* Intiaan Kom palasi Taizésta toukokuun lopussa 2008. Loppuvuoden aikana hän tutustui heimoonsa ja suunnitteli jatko-opintojaan.
-Kom johti nuorten (250)viikonloppuleirin, puhui, keskusteli ja kuunteli nuorten ongelmia ja unelmia ja opetti heille taizé-lauluja
-syys-lokakuulla Kom kiersi 50 seurakunnassa ja kirkossa Manipurissa, heimonsa lueilla. Hän sai hyvän kuvan kirkkonsa nykytilanteesta ja ihmisten elämästä ja ongelmista.
-suuria järjestelyjä vaati ensimmäinen leiri heimon lapsille joulun jälkeen 2008. Mukana oli 163 lasta. Leirin aihe oli USKALLA TOIVOA.(Seija Oinosen tekemä ‘powerpoint-CD’ kertoo leiristä Komin lähettämien kuvien ja tekstien perusteella.)
* Leirin jälkeen Komin oli suunnistauduttava jatko-opiskelujen pääsykokeisiin Gurukul Lutheran Theological and Research Centressä Chennaissa.
-Kokeisiin kutsuttiin 50 hakijaa, joista ensimmäisen päivän kirjallisten kokeiden jälkeen valittiin yksi suoraan ja 18 toisen päivän haastatteluihin ja keskusteluihin, Kom kuului heihin. 22.1.2009 Kom soitti iloisena, että hän on toinen sinä päivänä valituista.
-Opiskelualakseen Kom valitsi Missiologian.-Opiskelu alkoi kesäkuussa 2009

Olen luvannut kertoa silloin tällöin Sinapinsiemenseuran stipendiaatti-Komin kuulumisia. Kuvista näette joulun ajan tärkeimmän tapahtuman, Komin vanhemman sisaren häät.
Kom lähti joululomalle Chennaista kotikyläänsä, Manipurin valtioon, joulukuun puolenvälin paikkeilla ja joululoma kesti kuukauden. Kom sai taas kutsun kokonaan maksetulle Kanadan matkalle, mutta viisumia ei nytkään myönnetty. Syyksi Kom arveli sen, että hän on kotoisin Manipurin valtiosta ja se alue on tunnettu esim terrorismista ja ” i think it is very difficult to have a visa for an Indian to any country if it is not invited by the Association or community”
“So i decided that i will visit another city called Madurai which is close by and continue working in their Library for few days. This city is known for its presence of many outcaste (dalits) people. They have a beautiful college called Tamil Nadu Theological Seminary and i wanted to see from their library whether i could find some materials for my thesis……. i think whether there can be possibility for a retreat also. i think i have been working a lot this year and it will be a beautiful experience to end the year with a retreat.”
Toisin kävi. Isä soitti ja pyysi Komia tulemaan suoraan kotiin. Sisaren hääjuhlan valmistelut painoivat päälle ja isä ei jaksaisi niitä tehdä yksin. Kom meni suoraan kotiinsa. Säästösyistä Kom luopui nettiyhteydestä loman ajaksi. Hän kirjoitti pari kirjettä Imphalista ja kertoi olevansa aivan uudenlaisessa säätilassa Manipurissa. Chennaissa oli ollut koko ajan hellettä, aina yli +25 astetta, useimmiten lähemmäs +40 ja kaatosateita. Manipurissa oli nyt joulukuussa -5 astetta ja kylmää. Kom vähän sairastelikin siellä aluksi.
Lomalle Kom oli varannut mukaana muutaman kirjan, mutta ei ehtinyt avatakaan niitä.
“And the wedding of my sister will also need lots of things to be organized and arranged. The farewell party will be held in my native village and the next day there will be wedding at the groom’s place. For the farewell-party we expect at least 600 to 1000 people. So i will need to get back home to arrange things and also print out invitation cards….”
..”i was organising my sister’s Send-off ceremony (some called it Farewell Party) and it was really a heavy one for me. i was taking in-charge as i was assumed as the one who is more free than the other brothers.Though it might not have been as good it was really demanding… printing the invitation cards, arranging the Hall and sound system, arranging foods for more than 750 people. So you can imagine that i was not having proper rest and food just before the ceremony. It took place on the 5th in our father’s village and thank God it went well. The songs, homily by the Reverend, the Blessings by all the people was something which was very beautiful….”
“…and the next day, i.e. 6th of January was the Wedding at the Bridegroom’s place which was 100 kilometres away and i need to rearrange all the things we hired and used. It was good that some of my friends including James helped me in all these physical and technical arrangements. i attached some photos of the send-off ceremony as well as the wedding. i did not even have time to take proper pictures! i went to the wedding on the very early morning of the 6th by Bike. It was very very cold… i think it was around -4 and the road was very slippery and since it was it was 100 kilometres away i rode very fast and on the way i had an accident with one vehicle. i was very terrified and for that moment i was thinking we were seriously injured and will not be able to see my sister;s wedding But thank God nothing untowards happened except some scratches a little blood. So i reached the wedding place on time… around 10 am and i was again asked to speak on behalf of my family. i thought i will not do it but since my father insisted i gave a speech on behalf of the family introducing my sister to the congregations of about 1000 peoples. There were also some high profile people including the Ministers. So i stood up not even a presentable dress (i attached the photo too). The wedding went well and i’m happy for my sister too”
Kom viipyi yön yli sisarensa uudessa kodissa ja sanoo ymmärtävänsä paremmin mitä tarkoitetaan;”it is harder to say good-bye to the alive than to the dead”…. “It was the first time she visited her new village and now it will become her new village throughout her life. And as her husband belongs to different tribe… their ways of thinking and conducting was not similar….”
Hääpari oli oikein tyytyväinen ja kiitollinen, kun Kom osti heille joululahjaksi saamillaan rahoilla pesukoneen, he kun molemmat ovat työssä käyviä. Kom kertoi, että heillä on tapana ostaa hääparille jotain uuteen kotiin sopivaa ja tarpeellista, autetaan uuden elämän aloituksessa. Ihan niinkuin Suomessa.
Häävalmisteluja hoitaakseen ja seurakunnan pastorin lähetämänä Kom matkusti ystävän kanssa Imphaliin, pääkaupunkiin tapaamaan insinööriä, jonka oli tarkoitus suunnitella seurakunnalle uusi kirkko. Kom pyydettiin puhumaan nuorten kokoukseen 3.1.
“Let us rise up and build!’ (Nehemiah 2:18)….The theme “Let us rise up and build” was also important because there is a project of building a new church building. The present one which was built during my father’s time and during his time of leadership is already very small and on the verge of collapse….The Engineer made a blueprint and estimation abot 40.000 euros. The Pastor is trying to raise the fund for this and we are keeping him and the building committee in our prayers. There is very little money… not even 1/10 of the estimate but lets hope and see that the new church will materialise at least in the next 3/4 years, before we celebrate our 100 years of christians in 2017. The new foundation will start from this month. So the theme “Let us rise up and build” was important because it will not be possible without the involvement of Youth…”
“Many children were asking me whether there will be no more Children Camp and i told them that it is too difficult to organize during winter and if God’s will we will see in the summer. “
Heimon ensimmäinen lastenleiri vuoden 2008 joulun jälkeen oli jäänyt kovasti mieleen!
Kom opiskelee taas Chennaissa ja kirjeitä tulee harvemmin, koska “After a long week of presentations i’m waiting again another week of presentations. These days i’m doing one presentation after another…… These days my supervisor and professors are giving me extra works. As we are supposed to complete 12 credits this term which ends on 11th of April, we are required to present atleast 4 seminar papers each week. Last week i did a presentation on Roman Catholic Mission from 1500AD-present, with special emphasis on the Jesuits. Many of the things i found out about the Jesuits and Ignatius of Loyola, were new for me…..”
“….These past few months, in our paper Mission history, we are very much studying the contribution of monasticism, monasteries, friars, different orders of monasticism and i should say that i enjoyed very much. i’m still awaiting for the approval of my Research Project from the Senate Theses committee…”
